So on January 29th a new friend from the Jacob’s Ranch 2nd ward invited me to join a book club she’s in. I do enjoy to read but I’ve never been in a book club before. She told me that in January they read,
Then for February they were reading the 2nd book of this Trilogy.
Generally I’m a slow reader and so I was hesitant to feel like I’d be done reading both books by February 23rd when their book club meets. But I said I’d try and started reading Matched that night. I work through a few chapters that week and on Saturday I finished the rest of the first book. Then on this Sunday I started the second book Crossed. I finished Crossed last night! I couldn’t put these books down and I can’t wait for the 3rd book to come out in November. I also found that Disney has bought the movie rights to Matched and hopefully will be making a great movie from the book.
I think the books kind of have a “Hunger Games” feel to them. The story is different but it’s a futuristic society that basically controls everything and everyone. The main character Cassia falls in love with the wrong person, and the first book is about her struggle to fight what she wants with what she knows. The second book talks about her finding her love after she’s made a decision about who and what she really wants. There is romance, suspense and rule breaking in both books. I really loved them and would recommend them to anyone. They are clean and no swearing they’d be a great read for any young adult and up.
I will be watching Ally Condie’s website’s here, here and here for updates about the movie and the third book to the trilogy.
My neighbor just bought those books... I guess I need to bug her to hurry and finish so I can borrow them. They look good!
