Well, my first day on the new job was this last Wednesday. Sorry that I don't have any pictures of me standing in front of the buildings like the kids, but they don't allow cameras on base :) I drove down to Salt Lake City to stay with our friends Brad & Wendy, who were kind enough to let me stay there. I got in around 10:30 and got up the next morning at 5:15 for the 1 1/2 hour commute out to Dugway. Wednesday and Thursday both were spent signing paperwork, getting my base badge, getting it programmed with access, and getting account approval process started. All in all there's a lot of training, procedures, paperwork, and waiting before getting started. At least I have an interim security clearance so hopefully once the accounts and training are done I can actually start working and not have to wait for the full security clearance to finish (which for one guy there took a year to finish). The base itself is in the middle of nowhere, which I guess is a good thing for all the testing they do. They take security very seriously, both physical and on the computers. The people working out there are all nice, though, and I think will be good to work with.
So for now, I'll be commuting each weekend to Pocatello with another guy who also just started there from here while Amy gets the house ready to sell. Hopefully this situation doesn't last too long as I think it'll get quite tiring for all of us pretty quickly.
Good luck with selling the house. Real estate can be such a burden. We hope all is well with your family during your absence!
ReplyDeleteSo glad that you like your job. We will miss you guys!
